Malaysia tops list of China's top 5 unwrought aluminium alloy exporters in Jan-Feb 2023

During January-February 2023, Malaysia ranked first among unwrought aluminium alloy exporters to China

According to the Shanghai Metals Market, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, and Pakistan were the five top suppliers of unwrought aluminium alloy to China during January-February 2023. China imported 168,900 tonnes of unwrought aluminium alloy in the first two months of the year, a 39,500 tonne or 18.9% reduction from the same period last year.

A total of 73,500 tonnes of alloy were exported by Malaysia to China, followed by 15,500 tonnes by Thailand, according to the SMM data. The total number of unwrought aluminium alloy imports from China was 43.5%, followed by 9.2% by Thailand. For 7.8 percent, 7.2 percent, and 3.3%, respectively, Vietnam, South Korea, and Pakistan exported 13,200 tonnes, 12,100 tonnes, and 5,600 tonnes.

According to the General Administration of Customs, China imported 81,000 tonnes of unwrought aluminium alloy in January, a decline of 30.5 percent year-over-year and a 12.3 percent month-over-month. In February, the import volume increased by 8.6 percent on a month-to-month basis, despite the annual decline continuing by 4.3 per cent to 87,900 tonnes.

The top three Chinese importers of unwrought alloy during January-February 2023 were Zhejiang, Guangdong, and Fujian. China imports 72,000 tonnes of Zhejiang, accounting for 42.6% of total imports, followed by 29200 tonnes of Guangdong and 19,300 tonnes of Fujian. In the first two months, Guangdong imported 17.3 per cent and Fujian imported 11.4 per cent. Other regions imported 30 per cent total in the first two months.

In January and February, Fujian replaced Jiangsu Province as the third largest importer of unwrought aluminum alloy.
